South Middleton Township, PA – Motorcycle Rider Killed in Crash on York Road (September 29, 2026)

A motorcyclist died following a two-vehicle crash in South Middleton Township, Cumberland County, on the evening of September 29, 2026. Pennsylvania State Police responded to the intersection of York Road, also known as State Route 74, and Valley Street shortly before 9 p.m.

According to the state police report, a passenger vehicle was traveling south on York Road and attempting to turn left onto Valley Street when it was struck by a motorcycle traveling north on York Road. The two vehicles collided at the intersection, a T-shaped junction where York Road carries a posted speed limit of 35 mph and Valley Street carries a posted speed limit of 25 mph.

Cumberland Goodwill Fire and EMS responded to the scene and provided emergency medical treatment to the motorcycle operator, an 18-year-old man. He was transported to Holy Spirit Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The driver of the passenger vehicle, a 26-year-old man, was not reported injured in the crash.

At the time of the crash, weather conditions were clear and the roadway surface was dry. The area was dark, illuminated only by street lighting. South Middleton Township sits southwest of Carlisle, and York Road is a primary state highway connecting several communities in that part of Cumberland County, carrying a steady flow of local and through traffic in both directions.

Pennsylvania State Police troopers from the Carlisle station responded to investigate the crash and remained on scene for an extended period as they documented the roadway and gathered information from those involved. Emergency crews worked to clear the intersection and restore normal traffic flow once the investigation on scene was complete.
