Union Township, PA – Motorcyclist Killed in Head-On Collision on Route 72 (October 3, 2026)
A motorcyclist died after a head-on collision with a passenger car on Pennsylvania Route 72 near its intersection with Moonshine Road in Union Township, Lebanon County. The crash occurred shortly after 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2026, in a curved section of the two-lane highway that runs between the city of Lebanon and the Pine Grove area near the Lebanon-Schuylkill county line.
According to a crash report released by Pennsylvania State Police at the Jonestown station, a motorcycle and a sedan were traveling in opposite directions on Route 72 when the two vehicles collided head-on near the Moonshine Road intersection. The force of the impact threw the motorcycle's operator from the bike. Both vehicles sustained disabling damage in the collision and were later towed from the scene.
The motorcycle's operator, a 29-year-old man from Lebanon, was flown by a Penn State Health Life Lion medical helicopter to Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the sedan, a 53-year-old man from Annville, was not injured.
Pine Grove Fire Department and Lickdale Fire Company responded to the scene to assist Pennsylvania State Police and emergency medical personnel. Route 72 traffic was affected in the area while crews worked to clear the vehicles and investigate the collision. The road is a heavily traveled corridor connecting central Lebanon County to Interstate 81 and to Schuylkill County to the north, and it sees significant commuter and recreational traffic, including motorcycle traffic, on weekend afternoons during the fall riding season.
The collision remains under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police station in Jonestown. A full crash report is expected to be available from the investigating agency once the investigation is complete, and anyone with information about the crash is encouraged to contact Pennsylvania State Police.
