A crash involving a tractor-trailer and an SUV shut down the northbound lanes of Fruitville Pike in Manheim Township, Lancaster County, for several hours early Thursday morning. The two vehicles collided in the area near Chester Road, below Route 30, after Lancaster County-Wide Communications dispatched the call shortly before 2 a.m. as a vehicle crash with occupants trapped.
Manheim Township Police along with local fire and EMS crews responded to the scene. Emergency responders extricated several occupants from the vehicles and transported them to area hospitals for treatment; their conditions had not been publicly released as of Thursday afternoon.
Chester Road was also restricted to a single lane while crews cleared the scene and worked to reconstruct the sequence of the collision. Both Fruitville Pike and Chester Road reopened to traffic before 8 a.m. Thursday. Manheim Township Police said an investigative reconstruction of the crash was conducted as a standard precaution given the severity of the collision and the extended closure it required.
The Lancaster County Coroner's Office was not called to the scene. Manheim Township Police continue to review the circumstances that led to the collision between the tractor-trailer and the SUV, including the roadway and lighting conditions at the time.
A full crash report is expected to be available from Manheim Township Police once the investigation is complete. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Manheim Township Police.
