A crash involving a tractor-trailer closed a stretch of Interstate 81 in Greene Township, Franklin County, in the early morning hours of November 6, 2026. The Franklin Fire Company said crews were called to the scene around 3:30 a.m. after a collision in the southbound lanes near Exit 20, Scotland/Route 997.

Officials said one occupant was ejected during the crash. Two people were transported to local trauma centers for treatment, though the extent of their injuries was not immediately known. Fire crews worked to stabilize the scene while the roadway remained closed to traffic.

All southbound lanes of I-81 were closed between Exit 20, Scotland/Route 997, and Exit 17, Walker Road, while fire crews and investigators worked the scene and cleared the wreckage. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation confirmed the roadway reopened to traffic by about 6:30 a.m., after being closed for approximately three hours.

The crash occurred amid dense fog conditions reported across much of south-central Pennsylvania early that morning, which affected visibility along several area highways. Investigators had not released further details about how many vehicles were involved or the exact sequence of events leading to the crash as of this report.

A full crash report will be available from the agency investigating the collision once the review is complete. Anyone with information about the crash is encouraged to contact the investigating agency.
